AFTERCARE –
post procedure
The aftercare of your treatment is imperative. In order to keep your Permanent Makeup in a good condition, it is advisable to have a maintenance retouch every 6-24 months.
With all new Permanent Makeup treatments, we recommend you to return 4-8 weeks after your initial session for a complimentary retouch session to check colour retention.
Permanent Makeup is an art and every skin is different. We cannot determine your exact outcome, which is why your retouch session is so important as it allows for any potential alterations.
Immediate Aftercare
It is recommended that you blot the area gently with Clinisept or tepid water 3-4 hours post treatment, including the eyes to remove any seepage from the area. This can be repeated whenever necessary during the first 48 hours after treatment. After 48 hours, blot the area with damp cotton pads and dry using light patting with a clean tissue as advised. This may be morning and night time. Personalised aftercare recommendations are provided at the end of your treatment.
Avoid getting the area *wet.
Please be aware that the colour following a Permanent Makeup procedure is up to 70% darker immediately after treatment.
The colour will fade after 5-14 days. When the area is healing, you may notice patches of lighter colour. This is very normal and part of the healing process.
2 Weeks Post Treatment Onwards
After this time, you may resume getting the treatment area *‘wet’ (examples include: washing your face fully, showering with your face under water, swimming with your face in water).
Rate of healing varies from person to person based on genetics, age and lifestyle factors.
No alterations can be made for at least 28 days as the colour and shape may change.
The final ‘healed’ colour will not be visible for up to 4 weeks following treatment.
General Post Procedure Information:
For 2-5 days after the procedure, the treatment area may experience the following symptoms:
Flaking, tenderness, dryness and itching, swelling, redness and aching.
Additionally, for eye procedures, eyelashes may stick together and the eyelid can appear red and swollen.
Your Permanent Makeup procedure can be affected if you suffer from any medical conditions as discussed during your consultation/confirmation email. This will inevitably slow down the healing process and the aforementioned symptoms may appear more prominently.
However, it is unlikely that these will prohibit you to go about your normal activities the following day.
Please include the following in your aftercare routine until superficially healed:
• Apply the provided moisturising balm as recommended to the treated area very thinly (except for eye treatments), as advised.
• Thoroughly wash your hands before application and always use a clean cotton bud each time to avoid infection.
• Use a gentle facial cleanser without alcohol content and avoid the treatment area.
• If the treatment area gets wet, pat dry very gently with a clean towel or tissue.
• DO NOT RUB THE AREA(S).
• Use the provided solution for bathing the eyes only if applicable.
Please avoid the following in your routine after your Permanent Makeup treatment:
• Avoid getting the treatment area ‘wet’ (excluding blotting the area with damp cotton pads) until superficially healed. For example: in the shower, swimming and washing your face.
• Avoid heat treatments for 14 days (inc. sunbeds, sauna, steam room, hot baths/showers).
• Avoid exercise until superficially healed.
• Avoid makeup or skincare near the treatment area until superficially healed.
• Avoid waxing/tweezing/tinting for 14 days if you have received Eyebrow Permanent Makeup
Additional Precautions:
• If you have ever had cold sores or Herpes Simplex in the past, it is strongly recommended that you use your medication 7 days before and after lip treatments. This will help to prevent further complications such as an outbreak of Herpes and to minimise discomfort.
• Do not expose the treatment area(s) to extreme heat or cold until the healing process is complete. This includes avoiding sunbathing, tanning beds, saunas and other practices which expose the skin to extreme temperatures for at least 14 days.
• Avoid using conventional makeup on the treatment area for at least 14 days.
• Do not pick, scratch or rub the area that was treated. Tampering with the treatment area(s) will result in infections and delay the healing process, which may cause scarring.
• Use sunscreen or moisturiser with an SPF50 on the treatment area after 14 days to minimise fading.
It is advisable to avoid any skincare preparations containing skin resurfacing agents such as Retinoids or AHAs for at least 4 weeks after treatment. Moving forward, to ensure longevity of your Permanent Makeup, avoid using any such skincare directly over the area that has been treated.
Important Information:
• If you are planning on having an MRI scan, chemical peel or any other medical/cosmetic procedure, please inform your practitioner that you have undergone a Permanent Makeup treatment.
• If you want to give blood following Permanent Makeup treatments, please inform The National Blood Service, as you will not be eligible for blood donation for a year after treatment.
